Paracin

Paracin municipality located in Pomoravska district, and the center of municipality is town Paracin. In the invading expedition to the Balkan Peninsula in the transition from the old to the new era, the Romans probably came in the first century, and took Pomoravlje.


During their administration they built the famous and important military road (Via Militaris). One of the stations on this road was Sarmates, the first settlement in the municipality of Paracin which is mentioned in written sources.

In the period between two wars Paracin, as before, was important craft-shopping center in Serbia. Strong trade center during the nineteenth century, later takes on the characteristics of the industrial city. Paracin was liberated on 13th of October, 1945.

Sights:

  • Predominant are Grze and Sisevac areas, where picnic place Grza is located.
  • Monasteries: Sv. Petka in the village Izvor, Sv. Nikola in Sevojno, monastery of Pokvor Svete Bogorodice in Leslje, Church of Sveta Trojica in Paracin.
