Kanjiza

Kanjiza is located in Vojvodina in the north-eastern part of Backa, on the border with Hungary. The first mention of Kanjiza is from 1071. In the sixteenth century the Turks occupied this region, and after the Karlovac peace and formation of the Military Border two larger settlements separated by Tisa - Kanjizaa and Novi Knezevac develop independently. Kanjiza was given city status in 1908.
