Arandjelovac

The municipality of Arandjelovac is located in Sumadija district. Municipal Center is the city of Arandjelovac, located at the foot of mountains Bukulja and Vencac.

During the Middle Ages, this area was the crossroad of important roads. After the Turkish conquest this area has lost its significance, and is considered to have been deserted at the time of the great migration of Serbs in 1690. Only during the Austrian occupation from 1718 to 1739 the population increased.

Today, Arandjelovac is a relatively young settlement. It was established by order of Prince Milos, in March of 1837, in the territory of the village Vrbica. It was named after the Vrbica’s churc dedicated to the Archangel Gabriel, by written decree of Prince Milos in 17th of July 1859. With further expansion the city eventually merged with Bukovicka spa, which is now a park located in the city center.
