Ada

Ada municipality located in central Backa, on the right bank of the river Tisza. It is bordered by the municipalities of Senta, Coka, Novi Becej, Kikinda, and Backa Topola. Center of the municipality is the city of Ada.


This area was sutable for settlement from the earliest times, and traces of the advanced Roman civilization can be found. After the migration in 375, Huns and Avars with the Slavic tribes left their mark too. In the IX century Hungarians came to the Pannonian plains, and during the XII and XIV century they created settlements with predominantly Hungarian population. Ada is mentioned in the seventeenth century under the name Petrina, and later it was called Siget. According data from 1723 this place was called Ada-Hatta.

There are more very interesting facts about Ada:

  • Orthodox church in Ada, the temple of the Lord's Ascension built in 1759, dedicated to the Annunciation. There is an interesting Orthodox church in Mol with beautiful and very valuable iconostasis. Objects of Roman Catholic churches in Ada and Mol are very beautiful religious objects with interesting interior.
  • Recreation centers were formed in the villages of Ada and Mol, on the river Tisza. There are also beaches with restaurants, as well as well moderated camps near by.
  • Ada municipality is aboundant with very beautiful and rich hunting grounds, and fishing became of great importance after the construction of artificial lakes Budzak. Fishermen can enjoy fishing on the river Tisza too.
  • There is a group of about 10 farms that represent ethnological attraction in the vicinity of the artificial lakes Budzak. The farms have famous oaks whose age is estimated at about 150 years
