2.2. Subotica region - Subotica - Subotica-Horgos sands

On north of the Republic of Serbia,  close to the border with the Republic of Hungary, expands Subotica region. It includes sandy terrain of Subotica - Horgos sands (*), with tradition in vineyard growing over twenty centuries long; it consists of two parts: west and east.

2.2. Subotički rejon – Subotica - Subotičko-Horgoška peščara

  1. East part of the region goes from 46° 10' geographic latitude on the north to 46° 03' geographic latitude to the south, and 
  2. West part of the region goes from 46° 02' geographic latitude on the north to 45° 54' geograhpic latitude to the south.

 

Most of the region is on altitudes from 80 m ro 130 m. Region is lowland, without slopes,  more exactly it is located on sandy,  flat terrains of Subotica - Horgos sands.

It includes territory of the municipalities of Sombor, Subotica and Kanjiza.

Type of soil of this region is arenosol and sirozem on sand stone, as well as chernozem, though there are other types of soil too.

In this region,  on the south side, are lakes Palicko (*) and Ludosko (*).

(*) Subotica sands is protected natural property – Area of great significance .

Area of great significance - is area of easily identifiable characteristics, with considerable natural, biologically - ecological,  esthetic, and cultural-historical values, developed over time as result of interaction of nature,  natural potentials of the area, and traditional way of life of the local people. Area of great significance can be natural area with great characteristics and cultural area of great characteristics. Natural area of great characteristics is area of significant biological - ecological and esthetic value where traditional way of life of the local people haven't disturbed the nature and natural ecosystems. Cultural area of great characteristics if area of considerable terrain, esthetic, and cultural - historical values that have developed over the time as result of interaction of nature, natural potentials of the area, and traditional way of life of the local people.

(*) Lake Palic is protected natural good– Park of nature.

Park of nature - is area of well preserved natural values with mostly preserved natural ecosystems and lively landscapes, intended for protection of entire geological,  biological,  and terrain variability, as well as satisfying scientific, educational, spiritual, cultural,  tourist,  health - recreational needs, and other interests in accordance to the traditional way of life and ideals of sustainable development.

(*) Ludos lake is protected natural good – Special nature reserve.

Special nature reserve - is area with unchanged, or slightly changed,  nature,  of extreme significance because of uniqueness, rarity,  or presentation, which includes habitat of endangered wild species of plants, animals,  fungus, without settlements, or with sporadic settlements in which man lives in accordance to the nature, intended for preservation of existing natural characteristics,  gene pool,  ecological balance, monitoring of natural processes,  scientific and educational research, controlled visits, and preservation of traditional way of life. Special nature reserve can be florist,  fungal, forest and other types of vegetation, zoological (ornithological, ichyiological), geological, paleontological, hydrological, and other.
