2.1.1. Fruska gora vineyards - Fruska gora

Vineyards of Fruska Gora are located on the higher vineyard terrains, on the slopes of the mountain Fruska Gora. This vineyard circles territory of the national park "Fruška gora" (*), because of which the central area, peaks of Fruska Gora, does not belong to vineyards; that is forest complex of the national park "Fruška gora".


Vineyard includes parts of the folloowing cadastral municipalities: Nestin, Susek, Svilos, Banostor, Cerevic, Rakovac, Ledinci, Sremska Kamenica, Novi Sad II, Petrovaradin, Sremski Karlovci, Bukovac, Cortanovci, Beska, Krcedin, Novi Slankamen, Stari Slankamen, Molovin, Sot, Ljuba, Vizic, Djipsa, Divos, Lezimir, Grabovo, Mandjelos, Grgurevci, Suljam, Besenovo Prnjavor, Bešenovo selo, Mala Remeta, Stejanovci, Jazak Prnjavor, Jazak selo, Vrdnik, Pavlovci, Rivica, Irig, Neradin, Grgetek, Bankovci, Satrinci, Dobrodol, Velika Remeta, Krusedol Prnjavor, Maradik, Ljukovo, Berkasovo, Sid, Privina Glava, Gibarac, Bacinci, Kukujevci, Erdevik, Bingula, Calma and  Krusedol village.

History of wine making in this vineyards is related to the end of the roman conquest and introduction of this area into the Roman empire as one of the provinces. Prominent role in the wine making has Roman imperator Marko Aurelije Prob, by whose decision first vines were brought to the slopes of Fruska Gora (276). In time,  vineyards had spread, and wine from this area became popular throughout central Europe e. One of the most popular wines is Bermet – because of which, according to the legend, empress Marija Terezija had freed men of military service under the condition that they grow new vineyards. Bermet is traditional desert, aromatic wine that was first used as medicine. Its characteristic taste is result of numerous herbs, dried fruits and spices, added during production.

 

(*) National park is area with several types of ecological systems of national significance, prominent natural characteristics, where man lives in accordance to the nature; the area is intended for preservation of nature and resources, total area, geological, and animal diversity, as well as for fulfilling scientific, educational, spiritual, esthetic,  cultural, tourist,  health-recreational needs, and other activities in accordance to the ideas of protection of nature and sustainable development.
