Rajac

Rajac is situated at the end of the Valjevo mountain massif, 12 kilometers from Ljig. Rajac altitude ranges from 600 to 849 meters. Old travelers called this mountain "paradise on earth" because of the vast flowery meadovs. Rajac provides conditions for different types of tourism, especially sport and recreation, for manifestation, and rural tourism.


Climate of Suvobor’s Rajac is milder subalpaine, continental climate which adds to the health and recreation component. Stimulating effect of the climate allows suitable treatment of lung illnesses and respiratory problems, neurovegetative disorders and recovery, revitalization and strengthening of the entire body.

There are several caves in the area near Rajac, and most important is Rajacka cave. In the First World War a famous Battle of Kolubara took place there. There is "Monument for 1300 corporals’’, and a memorial fountain built to honor the fallen soldiers from the First World War, as well as several monuments dedicated to the fallen victims of World War II.

Since 1965. there is an event called "Mowing Rajac’’ held every first week after St. Peter’s day. Mowing is symbolic, and it is a festive finish of mowing the mountain grass. Mowers compete in folk costumes, with hats made of straw, and wrought, colorful bags on their shoulders. The best of them is declared as the winner – djidija, and he gets a gold scythe. At the same time there are many cultural - artistic programs, competition in preparing traditional dishes, exhibitions and demonstrations of agricultural machinery once used for work in the hill and mountain area.
