Ivanjica

Ivanjica municipality is located in the southwestern part of Serbia, on the river Moravica. It is surrounded by beautiful mountains Golija, Javor, Mucanj and Cemernica. Morava area was inhabited in the distant past. Various objects from the ancient era were found, made of stone. The first mention of the name was in 1505 in a note found in book of debts, which are kept in the Dubrovnik archives. Ivanjica town was founded back in 1833.


Half of all of the municipality of Ivanjica is under forests, which is a reason to declare the entire Ivanjica area an air spa in 2009. First tourist attraction in Ivanjica is Hadzi Prodan’s cave. Until now it, 400 meters of the cave is examined, and it is an archaeological treasure where valuable objects from the prehistoric era were found.

Near by picnic places:

Mountain Golija - a biosphere reserve under UNESCO protection, and a mountain beauty covered with dense forests. Its snow-covered grounds are ideal for winter sports. Golija is also very suitable for hunting and fishing. There are Ticar lake, lake Okruglica created in 1974 after the earthquake in Romania, and Kosaninovo lake. There are beautiful waterfalls on the river Izubra, and mountain Javor, also known for its natural beauty.
