Doljevac

Doljevac municipality is located in central Serbia, and it is a part of the Nis district. Municipal center is located in Doljevac. The first reliable data on this area come from the fourteenth century. The oldest traces of material culture and written sources include those relating to the medieval city of Koprijan. The ruins of the city are still there.


The Turkish census originates from 1444-1445, from the time the first rule of the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II. After the liberation from the Turkish government, the principality of Serbia and its authorities start the administrative-territorial organization, and the organization of government. The period after the liberation from the Turks and joining of the parts of Serbia is characterized by, among other things, faster development of settlements, and the increasing number of households and population in relation to the state under the Turks.

Rivers that flow through municipality: South Morava, Toplica and Pusta reka where fans of fishing come together. The whole area is rich in rare species of quail, pheasant and small game.The slopes of mountain Selicevica, on the right side of the South Morava is medieval fortress raised by nobleman Nenad Koprijan for Czar Lazar in 1372, in order to protect Serbia from breach of the Turks. In the vicinity of the medieval city, on the hill Komnjiga, is the church of St. Jovan from the XI century.

From cultural events we should mention: "meetings of teachers, and guardians for the children" organized in Doljevac since 1994, and ‘Bostanijada in Mekiš’, held every year in August.
