Bogatic

The municipality of Bogatic represents a unique entity with Macva plain. It stretches between the rivers Drina and Sava, in the northwestern part of the plains. Accordingly, the history of the municipality can be identified with the history Macva. It belongs to the municipality of Bijeljina (Serbian Republic), so that the Drina can not be regarded as absolutely western border of the municipality.


Cultural life in the municipality of Bogatic is exceptional thanks to decades of organized work. A cultural and educational center in Bogatic is involved in the cultural activities in the municipality as the only institution of its kind. National Library, Theater Janko Veselinović, house of culture, and ethno-park are a part of it

Several cultural monuments in the municipality are put under the state protection. Church of Rodjenje Bogorodice in Bogatic was completed in 1856, and its iconostasis is under the state protection, made by famous Serbian painter Steva Teodorovic. Municipal Assembly building was built in Art Nouveau style of the Pannonian secession in 1934.

The municipality of Bogatic organizes two important cultural and tourist events during the summer: ‘Izazanjac’, dedicated to the completion of harvest, and Hajduk’s evenings. Traditional ‘Hajduk’s evenings’ is being held from 1966 in Crna Bara on the river Drina, and its most interesting part is men competition for the selection of chieftain.
